About the courses
At The Fabled Thread, we’re passionate about making sewing and crafting enjoyable and accessible to all, whatever your experience. After years of running workshops in our studio, we wanted to reach a wider audience and offer a more flexible way for you to learn. That’s why we’ve created our creative online courses, where you can master new techniques at your own pace with clear, detailed videos.
Each course includes up to 90 minutes of pre-recorded content, allowing you to pause, rewind, and watch as often as you like. With lifetime access, you can continue honing your skills, and we’ll regularly add new material to keep you inspired. Our current courses take you from beginner sewing to more advanced techniques like freestyle embroidery and decorative framing, with a new course launching in 2025 to help you further build your creative confidence. These classes are designed to support and inspire you as you create something truly unique.

Eppie's mission to build your creative confidence
All of our creative online courses are led by our founder, Eppie Thompson. She first discovered her love for embroidery while working in investment banking, where the calming, meditative nature of needlework became her escape from the stress of her job.
Eppie started The Fabled Thread to encourage more people to pick up a needle, and her mission has grown into one of broader creative empowerment. Over the last five years, she’s taught hundreds of people to stitch and paint, developing a method that breaks down the creative process into manageable steps. Through our courses, Eppie shares all her tips and tricks, helping anyone, regardless of experience, create something beautiful.

If you’re feeling unsure about trying both embroidery and decorative painting together, let us reassure you – they’re a fantastic combination for developing your creative skills. Through our creative and inspirational classes, we’ll guide you step-by-step, showing how the same principles can be applied to both crafts, from colour selection to design planning. The variety between the two – the quick, rewarding nature of painting balanced with the slower, mindful practice of embroidery – creates a wonderful sense of achievement.
Even if one craft feels out of your comfort zone, our online courses are designed to help you build confidence as you go. You’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish, and by the end, you’ll have created an entire piece of artwork, including the frame, with your own hands.
