For the first time, we're introducing a craft that doesn't involve a needle! Appliqué is a wonderfully simple way to create colourful fabric artwork by cutting shapes, arranging them into a design and ironing them into place. We've fallen in love with this technique because it's quick, accessible and incredibly versatile. You don't need to know how to sew, and even complete beginners can create something beautiful in just a few hours. From playful animals to bold abstract compositions, our two new collections offer completely different ways to explore this craft. In the video below, I'll share why we decided to introduce appliqué and what makes it such an exciting addition to The Fabled Thread.

How Does Appliqué Work?
A Simple Process, From Fabric to Finished Artwork
Our appliqué kits use a wonderfully straightforward method. Simply trace your shapes onto the fusible fabric glue paper, attach them to your chosen fabrics, cut everything out and arrange your design. A quick iron fixes the pieces into place, ready to frame or finish with stitching.
Each kit includes the fabrics, glue paper, templates and instructions you'll need. All you need to provide is a pair of scissors, a pencil and an iron.

Fancy a Little Stitching?
Appliqué Cushions and Christmas Stockings
If you'd like a project that's a little more involved, our appliqué cushions and Christmas stockings are a lovely next step.
These kits use exactly the same method as our framable designs, but with an additional stage of stitching around each shape to make the finished piece more durable. You can stitch by hand using a simple blanket stitch, or use a sewing machine if you have one.
The result is something you can use and enjoy for years to come, from colourful cushions to personalised Christmas stockings.
