Welcome to The Fabled Thread
We know it’s your first time here, so let us introduce ourselves—and our rather wonderful kits! Maybe you’ve always wanted to try embroidery or needlepoint but didn’t know where to start, or perhaps you spotted one of our designs and thought, I need that! Whatever brought you here, we’re so glad it did.
Who are we?

The Art of Storytelling with Thread
We’re a small business on a big mission: to empower your creativity. We believe making things by hand can be genuinely life-changing—bringing calm, a sense of achievement, teaching patience, and showing you what you're capable of.
We do this by creating truly unique embroidery and needlepoint kits. Every one of our designs is made for beginners, yet the finished pieces look like heirlooms stitched by seasoned pros. We don’t think your ambition should be limited by your experience—and we’re here to prove how simple it can be to make something spectacular.
Everything we do is about the experience. We’re not just selling you a finished piece—we’re teaching you a skill, and hopefully introducing you to a hobby that might just change your life. From stitching your kit, to painting your own frame, to learning about design or taking part in one of our creative challenges—we’ll gently nudge you out of your comfort zone until, frankly, you don’t need us anymore.

What Makes Our Kits a Bit Special
Creating Art
Our goal with every kit is simple: to help you create a piece of art you’ll be proud to hang on your wall—without anyone ever guessing it came from a kit. The designs are bold, colourful, full of character, and they tell stories. And the best bit? You’ll know no one else has a piece quite like yours.
We’re With You Every Step
We’re not just sending you a product—we’re teaching you a skill. And we take that job seriously. Every kit comes with clear, detailed instructions and step-by-step videos so you’re never left wondering what to do next. We want the making to be joyful, not stressful—time that’s just for you.
Materials The Last
If you’re going to pour hours (days? months?) into creating something, it deserves to last. So we never scrimp on quality—from the materials themselves to the way the kits are packaged. Everything is chosen with care so your finished piece looks fabulous for decades to come.
It’s All About the Finish
Starting is great—but finishing? That’s where the magic happens. There’s nothing quite like the pride of that final stitch, so we’re here to help you get there. Whether it’s one of our hand-painted frames, our cushion-making service, or our paint-your-own frame sets, we make sure finishing feels just as special as starting.
Building Your Creative Confidence
We’re not just here to sell you kits—we’re here to help you grow. Too many people don’t see themselves as creative or don’t trust their instincts. We want to change that. For us, real success is seeing someone go from a beginner kit to designing their own pieces. So start small, but just know—you’re capable of more than you think.
Where to begin...
The Finishing Touch

We know one of the biggest hurdles to finishing your work is knowing what to do with the finished piece. The last thing we want is another piece to join a drawer of projects I don't know what to do with.
So, once you’ve finished your piece, we’ve got plenty of options to help you frame or finish it off. Whether you fancy painting your own frame or turning it into a cushion, we’ve curated a small, thoughtful range of products—so you’re not overwhelmed with choice, and you only buy what you actually need.

Choosing between embroidery and needlepoint?

Whilst there is a technical difference between the two (all about the type of fabric you stitch on!), we think the things you'll care about when deciding which hobby is for you are:
Needlepoint is more meditative: Needlepoint tends to be a simpler and less varied process - that's why it's suited to beginners! It's meditative, repetitive, and requires a little less focus. Whereas embroidery is a bit more engaging – there is more to learn and more ways to vary it, so you’ll be more absorbed in the process. We always say needlepoint is the perfect craft whilst watching TV, whereas embroidery is better suited to an audiobook.
Needlepoint creates functional items: Thanks to their small, dense stitches, needlepoint kits produce more durable finished products. That’s why needlepoint cushions and chairs from centuries ago are still around! Due to the delicacy of certain stitches, embroidery tends to be more fragile. That’s why all our embroidery kits are designed to be framed!
Needlepoint kits are slower: The process of tapestry stitching takes longer to complete - often many months to finish a piece. In contrast, embroidery can be completed in just a few hours. So if you're after quicker results or don’t have as much patience, embroidery might be a better fit.
If you’re confident, you might not need kits at all
Whether you’re just starting out or ready to branch out with your own designs, we’re here to share what we know. From decorative frame painting to technical stitching—and even helping you find your creative voice—we’ve got plenty to explore beyond the kit.
