What's the difference between needlepoint and embroidery?

How to choose the craft for you?

The main difference between embroidery and needlepoint is the type of fabric you stitch on: needlepoint is done on open-weave canvas, while embroidery is stitched on fabrics like cotton or linen. However, when it comes to choosing which craft you'll prefer, you should consider:

Needlepoint is more meditative: It’s simpler and less varied, making it great for beginners. The repetitive process is perfect for relaxing, whereas embroidery often requires more focus. We often describe needlepoint as helping you switch off whereas embroidery helps you switch on.

Needlepoint creates durable items: The small, dense stitches result in long-lasting, functional pieces like cushions or stockings. These pieces will last for generations!

Needlepoint takes longer: It’s a slower craft, often taking months to finish, while an embroidery project can be completed in hours. So if you want to improve your patience, then needlepoint could be perfect for you.

While still beginner-friendly, their larger scale and intricate designs make them a great option for those ready to take on a more substantial project. With our kits, you're not just crafting—you're creating a timeless piece of art.
