The Almanac is our first proper printed publication. Part brochure, part magazine, part collection of ideas, it is a slower way to explore the world of The Fabled Thread away from screens, scrolling and whatever an algorithm has decided you ought to be looking at that day.
Inside, you’ll find all of our different ways to make, from embroidery and needlepoint to appliqué, framing, courses and our wider creative community, alongside articles, ideas and plenty of beautiful imagery from the studio.
There are pieces on finding inspiration, painting and finishing your work, slowing down through making, and some of the thinking behind what we create. It is designed to be useful whether you have been stitching with us for years or have only just stumbled across The Fabled Thread.
Why we made it
Over the years, The Fabled Thread has grown into quite a lot more than the handful of embroidery kits we began with. The trouble is, the website is not always terribly good at showing you the whole picture.
The Almanac is our attempt to do that properly. We wanted to create something physical that you could sit down with over a cup of tea, flick backwards and forwards through, discover things you might otherwise have missed, and come back to when you are looking for your next project.
More than anything, we hope it gives a sense of what we are trying to build here. We believe making should be about much more than simply following instructions. Our kits are a starting point, but the real aim is to help people become more confident, curious and creative in their own right.
And once you have finished with it, please pass it on. Give it to a friend, leave it with your sewing group, take it into your local craft shop or hand it to someone who might rather discover us on paper than through an advert. For a small business like ours, that sort of old-fashioned word of mouth still means an enormous amount.
