Class Overview
I believe that framing can make or break a piece of art. When an embroidery is sensitively framed it totally transforms the piece and therefore it is as important as the stitching itself. With that in mind, we run workshops to guide you through how and why to decoratively frame artwork.
The aim of the session is to teach you the basics of decorative painting, introduce colour theory and show you techniques you can use to create patterns. You will then create a painted frame using our signature Fable frame. The class will show you how simple decorative painting is, even if you have not painted before!
Course Detail
This full day workshop will be focused on learning the basics of decorative painting and some simple motifs which can be be used in framing or elsewhere. We will talk through both freehand painting and using a stencil, and discuss the variety of paints which can be used. The frame we paint will fit an A4 work of art or any of our kits from The Fables range. This workshop is perfect bought solo or in combination with our freestyle embroidery workshop.
After an hour's lunch break we will then move onto choosing colour palettes for creating one frame. We will talk through the colour theory of choosing paints and then each pick a colour palette which will work with your frame.
You will spend the afternoon painting one of our signature Fables frames. This will either be for a piece of art you have brought yourself or for an embroidery you are stitching (in parallel you will be able to purchase a bundle of fabrics and threads in complementary colours to your frame).
This frame will be left with us to dry and for us to varnish, and then will be sent onto you the week after the workshop!.
